School of Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering (MAE)

Besides learning the basic knowledge and skills on mechanical engineering, students get to explore how planes fly, conduct aircraft structure design & analysis, and examine various aircraft systems that assist the aircraft during take-off, cruise and landing.

The course will also give you a head start in gaining the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer license, issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.

What makes the DARE unique?

  • An option to take the Certificate in Aviation Management will allow graduates to venture into Airport Operations and Management, a key area for growth in the region.
  • Local and overseas internships with leading aerospace companies such as Pratt & Whitney, ST Aerospace, Bombardier and Ameco.
  • Curriculum is aligned to Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore’s Airworthiness Requirements, which gives you a head start in getting your license as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. You can also sit for the examinations in order to attain the license while you’re still in SP.
  • A new AERO HUB to facilitate specialized training on aircraft, R&D on unmanned flying machines, flight simulation, propulsion systems, composite materials and operations of various aircraft systems.
  • You can gain direct entry into the second year of the Mechanical Engineering degree in NUS or NTU.

Applicants must obtain:

i) the following GCE 'O' Level grades at not more than two sittings and

ii) 26 points or better for the net ELR2B2 aggregate score (i.e. English Language, 2 relevant subjects and best 2 other subjects, including CCA Bonus points)

It should be noted that applicants particularly those who wish to pursue a career as a Licensed Aircraft Engineer (LAE) who have severe colour vision deficiency, uncontrolled epilepsy and hearing deficiency may encounter difficulties meeting the course requirements and expectation. Those with mild deficiencies in these areas are advised to contact the School for consultation.

The global aerospace industry is set to grow in the coming decades and multiple multi-national companies such as Rolls-Royce, Bombardier Aerospace Services Singapore, Bell Helicopter and Cessna Aircraft have already set up facilities in Seletar Aerospace Park. There will be strong demand for DARE graduates to fill the following roles:

The DARE curriculum also prepares you for the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) Airworthiness Requirements (SAR 66) examinations so that you can become a licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer ahead of others!
